According to Politico, which cites a Ukrainian government document, China is trying to secure support for its peace initiative on Ukraine at the current session of the UN General Assembly. The goal of Chinese diplomacy is to prevent Russia from losing the war.

According to a document obtained by Politico , the Chinese government came to the current UN General Assembly with a plan to rally support from Latin American, Asian and African countries for a deal that would freeze the front lines in Europe's bloodiest conflict since World War II.

The Chinese proposal is aimed at persuading diplomats to support peace talks that would "take into account the security interests of each country" in order to "prevent Russia from being defeated" in the war. Beijing's plan in New York envisions enlisting the support of about two dozen countries to form a "core" group that could quickly expand to include other countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

China is seeking their approval for its plan to initiate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine based on the joint Sino-Brazilian six-point proposal unveiled in May. That document calls for “no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of hostilities, and no provocation by either side.” That would allow Russia to continue fighting at its current intensity, as well as occupying Ukrainian territory.

Ukrainian officials are so concerned about the initiative that they distributed the document to diplomats gathered in New York for the UN General Assembly. Ukraine is also making efforts on various fronts this week to dissuade allies from embracing the China-backed plan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the China-Brazil peace plan as a "colonialist" effort in his speech to the General Assembly on Wednesday. Ukrainian diplomats are also calling on U.S. lawmakers to formally reject the Chinese plan.

U.S. officials continue to emphasize that any peace process in Ukraine requires Kyiv's full support. "A just and lasting peace requires Ukraine's full participation and consent... and Russia must pay for the damage it has caused," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a U.N. Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy has been trying this week to secure support at the UN and Washington for his "victory plan" to end the war.

For now, Ukraine's allies do not view China as a disinterested intermediary. American officials have accused China of prolonging the war by providing military aid to Russia, which Beijing denies.

Let us recall that the Danish Prime Minister proposes to reconsider the EU’s relations with China due to its assistance to Russia .
